I haven’t blogged for a bit and here is why:
            Excuse #1: My basement flooded
Excuse #2: My washing machine stopped working
            Excuse #3: Really? Aren’t #1 and #2 enough?

I won’t go through the whole circus that has been my week, but suffice it to say that not only has my writing been neglected, but my gym time too. I will mention that Monday night there was a horrible LostOnCampus experience at the U of U that made me want to pull my hair out. Famine—I can take it. Battling hungry lions to the death—no problem. Navigating the U of U campus with a crappy photocopied map and a severely uninformative Information Desk employee—maddening. It took me days and half a bottle of Merlot to recover emotionally.

The good news is I visited Hastings yesterday, bathed in some books and magazines and came home invigorated. I wrote the ending to my story and I love it. I’m still a few (thousand) words short of my goal but that will right itself in edits.

I still marvel how much I love this story. I compare A Scribble in the Margins to a gradual romance. We met. We liked each other. We grew quite fond of each other—even enjoyed each other’s company often. We fell in love. But this new story is different. It has been a whirlwind romance. A LoveAtFirstSight relationship. I’m still so fascinated with some of my characters that I think about them while I’m trying to fall asleep. Weird? Yes.

So I am back on track. I have some new ideas to help me as I move into the editing phase. I’m excited to see how the story morphs and matures as I go through it.

Recently I read Room by Emma Donoghue and loved it. I could rant about that for several paragraphs, I'm afraid, but I'll tell you that I couldn't put it down and leave it there. I’m reading The Lost World by Michael Crichton and enjoying that as well. What have you been reading lately? Favorites? Unfavorites? Eh?

Blog off!
