Awesomeness Part II continued some more....

This is a quick blog to update you on my NaNo progress. It’s currently day 23 and I’m at 51,000 words. I hope to write at least 9,000 more before the end of the month—and who knows, what with the long weekend and all maybe I’ll rock all the way to 70,000 words. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Just a note: I’ve discovered that when I’m writing with the intensity that I have been this month, I have THE WEIRDEST DREAMS OF ALL THE PLANET! I’m not kidding. They’re so weird that I don’t feel like I can post them here in this public forum. But…uh…anyway. I’m totally normal, so don’t worry about that.
I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving weekend and eat lots of turkey or tofurkey or whatever your poison is.
I love you all.
Mwah!

Awesomeness Part II continued again...

Day 16 of NaNoWriMo.

My novel is currently at 31,000 words and I hope to write a couple thousand more before bed tonight. I'm also reading Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury and audiobooking Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne as I commute to and from work.

Without going into too much (or really any) detail, something fantastic happened to my protagonist this week. As I've mentioned before, this is my 3rd-ish version of a story I started telling to my sisters when I was in the 8th grade. I'm rewriting it without looking at any of the previous versions, which forces me to take a character and plot I know well and expand them both into new and previously unexplored situations. Because of this, something happened so naturally in my writing that I was amazed I hadn't written it before--at least once. It changed the whole tone of the story and gave real-world perspective to my red-headed sci-fi teen. And thank goodness I have a real-world red-headed teen to eavesdrop on for dialogue inspiration. She's been very (unwittingly) helpful.

I've reread a lot of my old poems and think that maybe December should be Write-a-Poem-a-Day month for me. I'll let you know how that goes.

Blog off.

Awesomeness Part II continued....

It is Day Nine of NaNoWriMo. Coincidentally, it is Day Nine of November. I believe there's a correlation. I fell full bore into NaNoLand and joined their Web site where I can keep track of my word count, read posts from others who have undertaken the same semi-insane task, and see a little graph of my progress. (At this rate you will finish on....) Last time I charted my progress in a Microsoft Project file, but it seemed redundant to do both this time. I can't tell you how helpful it's been just knowing that I'm not going through this alone. It's a little funny that I'm writing a novel (something I'd rather do more than almost anything in the world) and I feel that need to find comfort in companionship--to know I'm not suffering through this difficult time alone (like I'm recovering from a deadly disease).

Well it's not quite that bad. I love to escape with my laptop and lose myself in whatever story or poem I'm working on currently. As a matter of fact, despite weather-related obstacles, I've made good progress this week. I'm currently at 17,500 words. If only I got a dollar per word I typed, I could pay off a very specific debt right now. I'm just saying.

In other (weather-related) news: A. Tree. Fell. On. My Boyfriend's. Car. A tree. Thank you overzealous November snowfall! Thanks ever so.

In other other news: I finished Nausea by Sartre, Nearest Star by Golub & Pasachoff (for research), Our Man in Havana by Greene, and I'm currently reading The Cat Who  Walks Through Walls by Heinlein. I think there was one more book in there, but I can't remember right off what it was. I'd love to hear what everyone else is reading.

That is all.

Blog off.
